Debbie Leitch: Left For Dead

Debbie Leitch: Left For Dead

Author: Mark Randell & Bethan Trueman February 19, 2025 Duration: 1:16:33
This week we head to the seaside resort of Blackpool. Home to Blackpool Pleasure Beach and the iconic Blackpool Tower, the town attracts millions of visitors every year. And it's not just tourists that flock to this quintessentially British holiday destination. Every year, thousands of people move to Blackpool from other parts of the UK. In 2016, 21-year-old Debbie Leitch and her mother, Elaine Clarke, moved there from Leeds, with Elaine's three other children. The move should have signalled the beginning of an exciting new chapter in their lives, but for Debbie, who had Down Syndrome, it heralded the beginning of the end when her life spiralled into a downward descent into hell where neglect, abuse and isolation reigned supreme. This is an infuriating story which contains descriptions of neglect and abuse that some listeners may find distressing. Listener discretion is advised. We have made a donation to the Downs Syndrome Association (Home - Downs Syndrome Association) in honour of Debbie Leitch - if you are able to and would like to donate too, please hit the link below: Make a donation to the Down's Syndrome Association If you would like to access exclusive bonus content and support us on Patreon, you can find us here: www.patreon.com/seeingredpodcast If you would like to GIFT a Patreon membership to a special someone, head to www.patreon.com/seeingredpodcast/gift If you would like to buy us a coffee (or wine!), hit the link below: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/seeingredtw Get your merch here: www.seeingredpodcast.co.uk Theme music arranged and composed by Holly-Jane Shears - check her work out at www.soundcloud.com/DeadDogInBlackBag Learn more about your ad choices. Every week, Mark Randell and Bethan Trueman pull up a chair to dissect the cases that leave them, and likely you, utterly confounded. Their Seeing Red podcast isn't just a recounting of facts; it's a deep, conversational dive into the true crime stories that are as intriguing as they are terrifying. What you'll hear are the details that get under your skin-the bizarre twists, the unsettling motives, and the procedural mysteries that make you question how such things happen. Mark and Bethan approach each narrative with a balanced perspective, ensuring the human elements are never lost amidst the shock. Tuning in means joining a discussion that respects the gravity of the subject while fully engaging with its complexities. For those who find themselves returning to these stories, looking for a new angle or a shared sense of disbelief, this show provides that space. The chemistry between the hosts makes even the darkest topics accessible, turning each episode into a compelling audio experience. If the standard episodes leave you wanting more, there is additional bonus content available directly through their Patreon page. At its core, this is for anyone who has ever been left speechless by a headline and wanted to understand the deeper, often red-faced-inducing story behind it.
