Gyalwang Karmapa Teaches on the Nature of Mind and Using Everyday Moments as Meditation (Podcast Episode #004)

Author: Selected Talks on Buddhism and Meditation by the Karmapa December 12, 2015 Duration: 1:04:55
Today we bring you the fourth episode in our new podcast series.

This very special informal teaching from His Holiness the Karmapa took place at the Root Institute in 2013.

The Karmapa received a question early in the session about Buddha Nature and then proceeded to give a short but vibrant talk on how to use everyday moments to meditate on the true nature of mind, sometimes speaking directly to the audience in English!

This was a wonderful moment for everyone present, including His Holiness, who has made the trips to the Root Institute somewhat of an annual tradition.

Within the stream of daily life, it can be difficult to find a source of genuine wisdom and practical guidance. Selected Talks on Buddhism and Meditation by the Karmapa offers just that-a curated collection of teachings from His Holiness the Gyalwang Karmapa, who leads the Karma Kagyu lineage and serves as a spiritual guide for countless people worldwide. Each episode presents a stand-alone talk, carefully chosen to address the complexities of modern existence through the lens of ancient Buddhist philosophy. You’ll hear explorations that go beyond theory, touching on how meditation practice can transform our relationship with stress, anxiety, and the pace of contemporary life. The discussions often extend into our responsibility toward the environment and the cultivation of a resilient, compassionate happiness. This podcast doesn’t offer quick fixes, but rather invites deep listening and reflection. By presenting these selected talks directly, the series makes the Karmapa’s accessible insights on mindfulness, ethics, and inner development available to anyone, anywhere. Whether you are new to these concepts or have a long-standing practice, each session provides substance to ponder and integrate. Tuning in feels less like consuming content and more like receiving a thoughtful, personal teaching, creating space for clarity and calm amid the noise.
