How to Develop Self-Consciousness?

Author: Bijibilla Rama Rao February 8, 2026 Duration: 8:43

When feeling self-conscious, one becomes aware of even the smallest of one’s own actions. Such awareness can impair one’s ability to perform complex actions.

“There is no coming to consciousness without pain.” — Carl Jung

“Self-consciousness is the ultimate wisdom of life.” — Debasish Mridha

“The level of your consciousness depends on the calmness of your mind.” — Nitin Nandeo

“Self-consciousness is not knowledge but a story one tells about oneself.” — Simone de Beauvoir

“Everyone is acting from his own level of consciousness. This is all we can ask of ourselves or anyone else. However hurtful someone is, he is doing the best he can, given the limits of his consciousness.” — Deepak Chopra

“Self-awareness gives you the capacity to learn from your mistakes as well as your successes. It enables you to keep growing.” — Lawrence Bossidy

Self-consciousness is a heightened sense of awareness of oneself. Historically, “self-consciousness” was synonymous with “self-awareness”, refering to a state of awareness that one exists and that one has consciousness. While “self-conscious” and “self-aware” are still sometimes used interchangeably, particularly in philosophy, “self-consciousness” has commonly come to refer to a preoccupation with oneself, especially with how others might perceive one’s appearance or one’s actions. An unpleasant feeling of self-consciousness may occur when one realizes that one is being watched or observed, the feeling that “everyone is looking” at oneself. Some people are habitually more self-conscious than others.

Awareness is key for everything. All of us should start from scratch and fall to rise up and get up then dress up to move forward to reach our destination in time is the right way of living. Failure is the first step to realize and recollect to find the ways and means to gain the experience makes strong in this process. Nobody is fallen from the sky or come with golden spoon. Everybody struggles and face the problems that occur and cross the obstacles and hurdles one by one on daily basis makes them to realize, recollect, not to repeat the same mistakes again and again is the key in this regard. Life is full of struggles and teaches us many lessons. Each lesson is like a page and gives us an opportunity to make chapters and allow us to prepare a book on your own.
