SPECIAL (009) - I Will Build My Church (Part A) - Matthew 16:16-18 - Rev. Steve Estes - Elverson, PA

Author: Jonathan Shirk October 4, 2022 Duration: 49:55

Steve Estes is the senior pastor of Brick Lane Community Church in Elverson, PA. He's been there for around 40 years. He obtained an undergrad degree from Columbia Bible College (now Columbia International University) and a post-grad degree from Westminster Theological Seminary (WTS). He's on the board of CCEF (Christian Counseling & Educational Foundation) and has taught a course on preaching at WTS. Besides being a pastor and speaker, Steve is an author of several books. His book writing began with his friendship with Joni Eareckson Tada. They were friends as teenagers and worked through God's sovereignty in Joni's paralysis. Joni liked the writing style of Steve's letters and they co-authored two books together. Steve is married to Verna and they have eight grown children and 16 grandchildren. Steve is among my favorite preachers.

My family and I recently worshiped with Brick Lane Community Church on my sabbatical, and Steve preached a wonderful message on the importance of other Christians in your life. Please listen to this message titled Help with Being Holy: The Means of Grace: Other Christians - Hebrews 10:23-25.

Rest of Steve's Series on the Church: I Will Build My Church (Part B); I Will Build My Church (Part C); I Will Build My Church (Part D); I Will Build My Church (Part E)

Books by Steve Estes: When God Weeps (with Joni Eareckson Tada); A Step Further (with Jonie Eareckson Tada); A Better December; Called to Die

You'll find Small Town Theologian emerging from an unlikely studio: Rev. Jonathan Shirk's walk-in closet. There's a grounded, unvarnished quality to these conversations that feels like a direct reflection of that humble setting. Each episode is deliberately crafted to fit within a ten-minute window, offering a focused moment of clarity amid a busy day. The approach is consistently biblical and rooted in a confessional Reformed perspective, but the aim is deeply practical. Jonathan draws on these theological foundations to address the real and often messy challenges that families and individuals face, seeking to translate ancient truths into present comfort and guidance. This isn't about abstract lectures; it's about applying enduring gospel truths to the complexities of modern life. The result is a podcast that feels both thoughtful and accessible, a brief respite that offers substance without demanding a huge investment of time. You can expect each compact session to deliver a clear, comforting thought to carry with you, making profound concepts feel approachable and immediately relevant. It's a quiet space for reflection built from the ground up in a small town.
