VOICEOVER The first round of the 2026 NBA Draft is officially in the books, and there were plenty of winners, surprises, and major questions heading into Round 2. The biggest headline? The Washington Wizards selected AJ Dybantsa with the No. 1 overall pick, signaling that the franchise believes they’ve found the centerpiece of their rebuild. Right behind them, the Utah Jazz landed elite guard Darryn Peterson, while the Memphis Grizzlies added Cameron Boozer to strengthen their young core. (Reuters) Draft night wasn’t just about the picks. There were seven trades during the first round, with several teams moving around the board looking for better value. One of the biggest late moves saw the Phoenix Suns trade into the first round to select Koa Peat with the 30th pick. (ESPN) According to ESPN’s draft analysts, some of the biggest winners were teams that stayed patient, found value, and addressed long-term needs instead of simply drafting for hype. Of course, every draft also leaves unanswered questions. Which rookie will make the fastest impact? Which surprise pick will prove everyone wrong? And which team will look back a few years from now wishing they had gone in a different direction? Round 2 is still ahead, meaning there are plenty of talented prospects waiting to hear their names called. What was your favorite pick from Round 1?
