Amazon Adventure - Stories from the River With Caz Dawson

Amazon Adventure - Stories from the River With Caz Dawson

Author: Simon Hutchinson August 5, 2024 Duration: 1:44:18

In this episode of the SUPfm podcast, we dive deep into the Amazon SUP Challenge—a gruelling 330km endurance paddle race through the heart of the Peruvian jungle.

This journey is not just a test of physical strength and mental resilience but also a cultural immersion that brings paddlers close to the vibrant and resilient communities along the Amazon River.

Simon chats with Caz Dawson (SUP Lass) and reflects on the immersive audio diary that Caz, Jonathan Gill, and Matthew Phillips put together as they braved the hot, humid, and treacherous conditions to become the first team to complete this year's Amazon Challenge.

They share their awe-inspiring experiences, from wildlife encounters to navigating rapid waters.

Beyond the race, the episode explores the meaningful engagement with local river communities. Alongside the personal achievement, the team also paddled to raise funds and awareness for these communities, with over 80% of their support crew comprising local members.

SUP Lass (Caz) became the first female to paddle this route on a stand-up paddleboard, and their efforts culminated in raising the highest amount for local causes in this year's fundraiser.

And if you're inspired, consider supporting their ongoing fundraising efforts to create a positive impact through adventure. Visit SUP Lass or their JustGiving Page for more details.
