084 - {Second Chance at Love} - Writing Queer Stories in the Past with Cat Sebastian

Author: Zoë Wernick & Kelsey Lubbe June 17, 2021 Duration: 1:35:49

Last year we were lucky enough to get to sit down with Cat Sebastian, author of many LQBTQ novels, including Avon's first published MM historical romance. We spoke about her journey to being an author, what drew her to the genre and time period, and how she discovered queer romance as a reader and as an author. We also talked about how she gives voice to her very diverse cast of characters who challenge the status quo. We hope you enjoy this fabulous conversation with Cat Sebastian....because we most certainly did!

Thank you again so much to Cat Sebastian for joining us!

Imagine two friends settling in with a good cup of tea, ready to dissect the latest regency romance they've devoured. That's the feeling you get with Tea & Strumpets: A Regency Romance Review, hosted by Zoë Wernick and Kelsey Lubbe. This isn't a formal literary critique, but a lively and deeply knowledgeable conversation between enthusiasts. They explore everything that makes the genre tick, from the perfectly executed slow-burn tension to the occasional plot that leaves them a bit cold. Each episode feels like joining a book club where the analysis is sharp, the humor is warm, and the passion for the period is undeniable. You'll hear them delve into beloved series from giants like Julia Quinn and Lisa Kleypas, breaking down why certain characters or tropes resonate so powerfully. But a real strength of this podcast is its dedication to the wider world of regency storytelling. Zoë and Kelsey regularly highlight exciting new voices, such as Scarlett Peckham, Cat Sebastian, and Evie Dunmore, offering a fantastic way to discover your next favorite author. Their discussions go beyond simple plot summaries to examine character motivations, historical context, and the pure, delightful craft of a well-written happily ever after. It's a listen that will make longtime fans feel seen and welcome newcomers into a rich fictional world. For anyone who appreciates wit, warmth, and a deep dive into the books that make hearts race, this is an essential addition to your listening routine.
