Ted & Amy On Demand

I got this tattoo after my dad passed away, not fully understanding its significance at the time. He died in 2015, and in 2019 I took a DNA test that revealed the man who raised me was not my biological father. Tattoos take time—especially the meaningful ones. For this piece, I originally thought about putting “father” above it. But the more I reflected, the more I realized that wasn’t the right word. Instead, I chose “protector.” Because that’s exactly who he was.
He protected me from the woman I once called my mother. She wasn’t just physically abusive—she was emotionally and mentally abusive as well. And while she treated us that way, she treated him even worse. He could have left at any time, but he chose to stay… to protect us.
Growing up, we used to watch the weather channel together, and his dream was always to chase tornadoes. I like to think that now, wherever he is, he’s finally doing just that.
