Peter Phillips is a husband, father, surfer and leading educator at the sustainability focused and internationally recognised, Green School Bali. Born and raised in Australia, Peter finds his spiritual home in Sanur, Bali, the place his mother and extended Balinese family are from and where he now lives with his wife Mel and their two children Koa and Nyah.

Peter graduated from University with a Bachelor of Education and since graduating has actively sought “progressive approaches” to education. His experience in education is diverse, teaching in the Australian public system, Steiner schools, and currently an International school which has students from literally every part of the globe.

In getting to know Peter, it became very obvious to me early on that this is someone who possesses innate educational leadership. His academic prowess, strong ability to communicate with people on a variety of levels and his personal passion to progress in all that he does provides inspiration to his family, friends, colleagues, local community, but most importantly, the students that he teaches. Combined with an authentic cultural sensitivity and empathy, it  fills me with optimism  and hope to his some like Peter on an educational leadership trajectory, hence his recent appointment as Teacher Representative to the Board of Directors at the Green School.

On this week's episode, Peter is with me to share his journey, experiences, challenges and hopes for the future.

You'll find a particular kind of honesty in the conversations on Terrible. Happy, a podcast that sounds like a late-night chat in a backyard after a long day at the skatepark. Host Shan sits down with a rotating cast of characters from the Australian skateboarding scene and beyond, but the talk rarely stays on just tricks and terrain. It naturally veers into the messy, funny, and deeply human stuff that happens off the board: the struggles with fitness, the odd jobs that pay the bills, the mental health ups and downs, and the pure, alternative comedy of everyday life. This isn't a polished production; it's the raw audio of community, capturing the specific voices and stories that make this culture tick. Listeners will hear genuine interviews that feel more like catching up with an old mate, punctuated by the occasional chaos of THT Radio segments. It’s about finding the connection and the laughter in the grind, whether that's on four wheels or just trying to get through the week. The result is a uniquely Australian show that’s less about sports commentary and more about the shared, sometimes terrible, often happy reality of the people within it.
