How did 'Deadline' change comics forever? — In Orbit Every Wednesday

Author: 2000 AD March 25, 2026 Duration: 1:05:19

Created by 2000 AD artists Brett Ewins & Steve Dillon, it was the anarchic, irreverent and hugely influential 'mature' comic that ran from 1988 to 1995 and changed the face of the industry — from featuring Alan Martin & Jamie Hewlett's wildly-popular 'Tank Girl' and early work by Philip Bond, Glyn Dillon, D'Israeli, and Nick Abadzis, to sparking a whole host of imitators. On this episode of In Orbit Every Wednesday, Molch-R and KLO-E discuss the history and creators behind this seminal title in British culture.

Then we take you to Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle for the 'All Gas, No Brakes: How Deadline Shaped Tank Girl, Gorillaz, and Pop Culture Media Forever' panel as host KLO-E is joined by 2000 AD writer Arthur Wyatt, journalist Graeme McMillan, and Chris Northrop, project manager of A1/Deadline as they discuss Britpop, post-punk, mutant kangaroos, anthropomorphic monkeys with crazy rhythm, girls with shaved heads, an appreciation for sad boys singing, atomic babies, a whole lot of ennui, and how Deadline shaped pop culture as we appreciate it even now.

Hosted by 2000 AD Brand Manager Michael ‘Molch-R’ Molcher and comics critic and creator of The Gutter Review, Chloe ‘KLO-E’ Maveal, In Orbit Every Wednesday from the 2000 AD Thrill-Cast goes live every Wednesday with the latest news about 2000 AD and Rebellion’s new comics, exciting special guests, and chat about the sheer love of comics!
