Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Alaska Weather Podcast — it's Sunday, February 22nd. Alaska is showing off today with three completely different weather worlds happening at once. Let me break it down. Southeast Alaska is getting absolutely hammered by wind right now. Juneau and Douglas are under a High Wind Warning with gusts hitting 80 miles an hour — strong enough to knock down trees and flip trash cans into next week. These Taku winds peak this morning, then ease off by tonight. Despite the chaos, you're actually the warmest spot in the state at 27 degrees under sunny skies. That calm doesn't last though — snow returns Tuesday as a storm rolls in. Now shift north to the Interior, where Fairbanks is buried in a full-blown snowstorm. You're looking at 4 to 8 inches of snow through Monday with temps around 10 degrees. Heavy snow and gusty winds mean low visibility out there. If you're traveling the Dalton or Parks Highway, expect slippery roads and possible delays. Meanwhile, Southcentral Alaska — Anchorage, Mat-Su. And the Kenai — you've got the quiet day. Highs only hit the mid-teens, but with clear skies and light winds, it's actually the most pleasant spot in the state if you Dress warmly. That calm ends Monday night when light snow moves in. Arctic air plunges south behind this storm. By Wednesday, Southcentral drops to minus 13 while the Interior sees minus 30. That's dangerously cold — make sure your car and home are winter-ready. Southeast, your wind finally eases, but rain and snow return Tuesday with 1 to 3 inches possible. Alright. If this helped you plan your day, share it with a friend who could use the heads-up. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
