Alaska Weather March 5 Midday - Blizzard Warning

Alaska Weather March 5 Midday - Blizzard Warning

Author: The Weather Podcast, Inc. March 6, 2026 Duration: 2:10
Good afternoon. Alaska. I'm Aaron Jolly. Step outside and you'll feel 8 degrees. That's where we're sitting right now after bottoming out at 3 overnight. But here's the thing about Alaska — we're living three completely different days depending on your zip code. In the next 24 hours. Down in Southeast. Juneau's getting absolutely hammered with rain. You're at 40 degrees right now. And those showers aren't letting up. Tonight drops to 38 before Friday brings the heavy stuff — three quarters to a full inch of rain. Then Saturday afternoon? Everything flips. That rain turns to snow as temperatures crash to 30. Anchorage, you're caught in the middle. High near 18 today with light snow possible this afternoon. Tonight drops to 15. And that's when things get interesting. Snow becomes likely with certainty, plus areas of blowing snow. Friday's the real show — 1 to 3 inches with north winds gusting to 30 miles an hour. Saturday adds another round before things finally settle. Now Fairbanks. You're getting the deep freeze. Sunny skies today, sure, but you're only hitting 2 degrees. Tonight plunges to minus 14. That's the kind of cold where your breath crystallizes instantly. Friday warms to 11, but snow moves in — another 1 to 3 inches expected. Friday through Saturday stays active everywhere. Heavy rain Southeast, accumulating snow Southcentral and Interior. Then Sunday through Tuesday? Everyone gets colder. Interior, you're looking at brutal lows: minus 14 Sunday, minus 24 Monday, minus 30 Tuesday. Southeast transitions fully to snow. Southcentral moderates slightly but stays mostly cloudy. Cover that exposed skin if you're in Fairbanks tonight. Frostbite doesn't ask permission. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
