Episode 201: Quick sleep suggestions and my sleep book is a bestseller!

Author: Marion Rose, PhD. November 6, 2024 Duration: 22:37
As this very long sleep series draws to a close, in this episode, I share some quick sleep suggestions for parents of a baby, toddler, child, or teen. Babies, children, and teens need to be both tired and relaxed to sleep restfully. Relaxation is created in two ways: ~ through a sense of safety (which is met by having closeness, especially in the early years), ~ and by releasing any pent-up painful feelings that naturally bubble to the surface to be expressed when they are tired. If children don't feel safe, they won't feel relaxed, and will need to dissociate to go to sleep. If children have accumulated painful feelings bubbling to the surface that aren't released, they won't feel relaxed, and will need to dissociate to go to sleep. If they dissociate to fall asleep, the sleep is not likely to be restful. I'm so excited to tell you that the third book in my trilogy of Aware Parenting books – Sound Sleep and Secure Attachment with Aware Parenting – is out, and it's already a bestseller in both paperback and Kindle editions! The audiobook will be coming out next year! Marion Rose, PhD. hosts The Aware Parenting Podcast, drawing from her role as a level two instructor and regional coordinator for Australia and New Zealand within this philosophy. The foundation of her discussions is Aware Parenting, an approach developed by Aletha Solter, PhD. Rather than offering quick fixes or rigid rules, this podcast delves into the nuanced and often emotional landscape of raising children-and ourselves. Each episode considers the practical and psychological aspects of family life, from navigating daily challenges to understanding the deeper patterns that influence our reactions. You’ll hear explorations on how to support children’s emotional expression, build trusting relationships, and approach discipline from a place of connection. The concept of reparenting-the work we do to heal our own childhood experiences-is woven throughout, recognizing how our past shapes our present parenting. Marion’s perspective provides a compassionate framework for anyone looking to move beyond autopilot reactions and cultivate more awareness in their family dynamics. Tuning into this podcast feels like a thoughtful conversation with a knowledgeable guide, one that respects the complexity of both the child’s and the parent’s inner world.
