Episode 212: The tangible effects of having our needs met as mothers with Caitlin Jaspers

Author: Marion Rose, PhD. December 22, 2024 Duration: 56:19
I love this episode with Caitlin Jaspers, who has been doing mentoring with me for the last 4 months. This episode includes both her practice of Aware Parenting, and also The Marion Method and Nonviolent Communication. Caitlin starts off sharing her journey with Aware Parenting, which started when her 4-month-old son was waking very frequently. Once she started practicing Aware Parenting, his sleep shifted. However, she then saw how much of an effect her own inner work, including her exploration of her control patterns, her willingness to have her needs met, and her having her feelings heard, affected her son's ability to freely express his emotions. I love how clearly Caitlin shares the direct and tangible effects of doing her own de-conditioning so she has been more and more willing to have her own needs met. I'm so grateful to Caitlin for sharing her experience of how powerful we are as mothers, and what a difference we can make to our children's experiences and willingness to express their healing-feelings to us. Marion Rose, PhD. hosts The Aware Parenting Podcast, drawing from her role as a level two instructor and regional coordinator for Australia and New Zealand within this philosophy. The foundation of her discussions is Aware Parenting, an approach developed by Aletha Solter, PhD. Rather than offering quick fixes or rigid rules, this podcast delves into the nuanced and often emotional landscape of raising children-and ourselves. Each episode considers the practical and psychological aspects of family life, from navigating daily challenges to understanding the deeper patterns that influence our reactions. You’ll hear explorations on how to support children’s emotional expression, build trusting relationships, and approach discipline from a place of connection. The concept of reparenting-the work we do to heal our own childhood experiences-is woven throughout, recognizing how our past shapes our present parenting. Marion’s perspective provides a compassionate framework for anyone looking to move beyond autopilot reactions and cultivate more awareness in their family dynamics. Tuning into this podcast feels like a thoughtful conversation with a knowledgeable guide, one that respects the complexity of both the child’s and the parent’s inner world.
