Episode 214: Instead of New Year's resolutions, there's the wonder of willingness

Author: Marion Rose, PhD. December 31, 2024 Duration: 45:43
This continues the reparenting series (and reculturing too). It's part of The Marion Method, not Aware Parenting. In this episode, I talk about the process of change from Marion Method perspective, and how getting freer from Disconnected Domination Culture conditioning, and instead embracing lovingness and willingness, supports us to say no to what we don't want, and yes to what we do want. I share about the difference between wanting and willing, and not wanting and not being willing, about the gifts of jealousy, and about why we might be scared to have, do, or be what we really want. I include the metaphor of having one foot on the accelerator and one foot on the brake, and how we can support ourselves to know that we are safe while having, doing, or being what we really want. I talk about Looking Back and Looking Forward with Lovingness and Willingness, which is a self-paced offering that includes audios, PDFs and Evernotes, so you can choose how you go about it. If you're thinking of joining my Marion Method Membership, I recommend doing this first. Marion Rose, PhD. hosts The Aware Parenting Podcast, drawing from her role as a level two instructor and regional coordinator for Australia and New Zealand within this philosophy. The foundation of her discussions is Aware Parenting, an approach developed by Aletha Solter, PhD. Rather than offering quick fixes or rigid rules, this podcast delves into the nuanced and often emotional landscape of raising children-and ourselves. Each episode considers the practical and psychological aspects of family life, from navigating daily challenges to understanding the deeper patterns that influence our reactions. You’ll hear explorations on how to support children’s emotional expression, build trusting relationships, and approach discipline from a place of connection. The concept of reparenting-the work we do to heal our own childhood experiences-is woven throughout, recognizing how our past shapes our present parenting. Marion’s perspective provides a compassionate framework for anyone looking to move beyond autopilot reactions and cultivate more awareness in their family dynamics. Tuning into this podcast feels like a thoughtful conversation with a knowledgeable guide, one that respects the complexity of both the child’s and the parent’s inner world.
