E 10: "Life as a Celiathlete" with Karen Brady

Author: The Bluegrass BAMR Podcast June 28, 2019 Duration: 49:20

Karen Brady, aka The Celiathlete, was diagnosed with Celiac Disease at the age of 30. After some trial and error, and help from a Registered Dietitian, Karen was able to find the nutritional solutions to help fuel her greatest passion: running.  Not only has Karen learned to live and run with her celiac diagnosis, she has also overcome an injury that caused a major setback to her first Boston Marathon experience in 2015.  She is now back and ready to chase Boston again!  Karen's story is one of great inspiration and motivation- I hope you enjoy it and are inspired by Karen's positive spirit and love for running.

Running with Celiac Disease

There's a particular kind of energy found on the roads and trails of Kentucky, often powered by someone balancing miles with motherhood. The Bluegrass BAMR Podcast taps directly into that current, sharing voices from the heart of this community. BAMR, standing for Bad Ass Mother Runner, is more than an acronym; it's the shared identity of women who lace up their shoes amidst the beautiful chaos of daily life. Each conversation in this podcast unfolds like a long run with a friend, covering the gritty, joyful, and sometimes messy reality of pursuing fitness while raising a family. You'll hear from runners across the state and occasionally beyond, not just about personal records or training plans, but about the support systems that make it possible-partners, coaches, fellow parents, and the inner resolve that gets them out the door. These are stories of resilience, small victories, and the collective power found when mothers run. Tune in for honest talk that celebrates the strength in every stride, proving that the journey is always better with company. This podcast is for anyone who finds their sanctuary on the move.
