The proposed bill, the Nigeria Religious Freedom Accountability Act of 2025, would classify Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern,” impose sanctions on complicit Nigerian officials, and reinforce designations against jihadist groups.
Cruz frames this as part of his long-standing advocacy for global religious freedom and draws parallels to past cases, such as Sudan’s imprisonment of Miriam Ibrahim for her Christian faith.
