Colleges have a "type" of student they are looking for when they make admissions decisions, and not all of it shows up on the application checklist. Understanding these factors can give you a real leg up in the college admissions process this fall.

Getting in is harder at the top than it has ever been. The average acceptance rate at four-year, not-for-profit colleges was 73% in fall 2022, according to the National Association for College Admission Counseling.
