episode 044: Danielle Barich

Author: with May Globus February 23, 2022 Duration: 52:50
There is a natural elegance and sparkle to Paris-based Danielle Barich. The former event planner and now sensory strategist has worked with the likes of Nike, Monique Lhuillier, Bioderma, Nespresso and Veuve Clicquot to help them deliver brand & consumer experiences around the five senses: taste, touch, smell, hearing, sight. Born in Toronto, Danielle comes from a close-knit hockey family and has a mother & father with strong independent streaks and passions. An artistic child and teen, she was also deeply involved in sports, playing hockey and competitive sprint canoe. After high school, she went down the path of fashion and event planning, eventually working to create experiences in the luxury wedding industry. A major life change a few years ago brought her a new chapter in Paris, a place she had always felt drawn to. In this conversation, we examine her tight relationship with her parents and what she’s learned from both of them; balancing art and sports growing up; the long journey to her dream life in Paris; what a sensory strategist does and how she works with brands; the art & science of smell; how people can enhance their five senses; the ways our senses can play into future technology and the metaverse; and more.

There’s a particular texture to a life built around creating something meaningful, whether that’s a business, a work of art, or a new path forward. The Craft with May Globus pulls back the curtain on those lives through unhurried, intimate dialogues. May sits down with a diverse range of creators, founders, and pioneers, but the focus here is less on glossy success stories and more on the raw material of their journeys. You’ll hear the nuances of their creative process, the pivotal moments in their personal backstory, and how their philosophy shapes their daily existence. It’s an ongoing exploration of the shared humanity behind different kinds of work. What makes this podcast uniquely immersive is its commitment to being an audio-visual experience. Each conversation is accompanied by rich, editorial-style photography that provides a deeper, more sensory connection to the guest and their world. Think of it like a beautifully composed magazine feature that you can listen to, where the images and the dialogue work in concert. Tuning into this podcast feels like gaining quiet, privileged access to the minds of people who are thoughtfully shaping culture, one idea at a time.
