Monday, Mar 9 - Spanish Rice Parking Garage

People from neighboring states are starting to figure out that Connecticut’s bottle deposit program can actually be worth the trip. With the state now offering 10 cents per can or bottle, some folks are crossing state lines to cash in. Redemption centers across the Nutmeg State have been seeing an increase in people returning empties, and for anyone who’s been collecting cans for a while, those dimes can add up pretty quickly. Speaking of Connecticut, the state is also getting some positive national attention. According to a new study from WalletHub, Connecticut ranks among the best states in the country for women to thrive. The study looked at things like income levels, healthcare access, and workplace opportunities to determine where women have the best chance to succeed. Meanwhile, lawmakers in Connecticut are trying to tackle another issue that’s been a growing concern for parents and teachers: cell phone use in schools. Officials are exploring ways to limit or regulate phone use during the school day in an effort to cut down on distractions and help students stay focused in the classroom. Not everything making headlines lately is serious, though. A video that’s been circulating online shows an Italian man being forced to eat at Olive Garden, and the internet can’t seem to get enough of it. The clip has gone viral, with people joking about the culture clash between authentic Italian cuisine and the American chain restaurant version. And finally, down in Georgia, a sheriff from the Atlanta area made headlines for all the wrong reasons. He was arrested for driving under the influence, and according to reports, he told officers he had been drinking Four Loko since 6 a.m. Needless to say, that explanation didn’t help his case.
