Alfred Jonker

Paul and Cody were delighted to welcome the chair of the Dutch Klinefelter Association (DKA), Alfred Jonker, to the show.

Alfred learned he has XXY sex chromosomes at the age of 32 while trying to have a family. And since 2014 has been at the forefront of sex chromosome and intersex medical and human rights advocacy in the Netherlands.  Also internationally.

Alfred actively champions the interests of DKA members, with a focus on strengthening partnerships with Dutch, European, and international (patient) organisations.  Alfred promotes and supports scientific and practice-oriented research; builds and maintains long-term relationships with healthcare professionals. He contributes to his organisation, promoting the visibility of his community and making a demonstrable difference to the lives of DKA members, with a service-oriented and collaborative approach,

Alfred is also the driving force behind the Netherlands organisation Diversity of Sexual Development Together/Intersex, and is an ambassador and member of the advisory board of the Chromodiversity Foundation.

Tune into The I in Us, a space dedicated to the often overlooked and vital conversations within the intersex community. Produced by JOY 94.9 as part of their Rainbow Community Podcasts, this series moves beyond simple definitions to explore the lived realities, diverse identities, and personal stories of intersex people. Each episode fosters a genuine sense of connection, tackling how intersex experiences intersect with broader societal structures, cultural perceptions, and personal well-being. You’ll hear discussions that thoughtfully navigate topics of health, both physical and mental, fitness, sexuality, and the ongoing journey toward self-acceptance and advocacy. This podcast serves as both a refuge and a resource, amplifying voices that challenge norms and build understanding. It’s about finding the shared humanity in our individual stories and recognizing the strength in community. For anyone within the LGBTIQA+ spectrum and its allies, these conversations provide essential insight and foster a deeper, more inclusive dialogue.
