#527: Narratives

#527: Narratives

Author: Brooke Castillo September 5, 2024 Duration: 22:48

Who do you think you are?

Have you ever asked yourself that seriously?

Most people have an idea, a story, about who they are and that narrative creates their identity. However, narratives are not absolute truths and you have way more power over yours than you think.

In this episode, you’ll learn what a personal narrative is and why learning how to control yours is one of the most important skills you can cultivate. I walk you through an exercise in uncovering your narrative, in deciding what you want your life and your story to be about, and an exercise in seeing the contrast that all humans naturally have.

You are the main character of your life, so how will you write your story?

What You Will Discover:

  • Why learning how to control your narrative is so important.
  • How people with similar circumstances can have vastly different lives.
  • Why personal narratives are not absolute truths.
  • The power of an “I am” thesis.
  • An exercise to uncover your current narrative.

Brooke Castillo’s The Life Coach School Podcast is a deep, practical exploration of the frameworks that underpin effective coaching and personal change. Rather than offering quick fixes, Brooke delves into the specific skills and thought models necessary for creating sustainable results, whether for yourself or for clients you aim to serve. Each episode feels like a direct conversation, breaking down concepts like self-management, emotional regulation, and the intentional creation of belief systems. While the insights are invaluable for anyone on a self-improvement journey, they are particularly crafted for those serious about the craft of coaching itself. The discussions naturally extend into the realms of entrepreneurship and business, as building a coaching practice requires more than just interpersonal skills. You’ll find clear explanations on how to translate these mindsets into a professional service that genuinely helps others achieve their goals. This podcast often serves as a companion to the more structured certification path offered by The Life Coach School, providing the philosophical and practical groundwork that makes the rigorous training resonate. Listening, you gain access to Brooke’s decades of experience, hearing how she approaches common obstacles and what it truly means to facilitate transformation. The tone is both compassionate and straightforward, stripping away the mystery from personal development and replacing it with actionable understanding. It’s a resource for those who want to think differently about their own lives and learn how to guide others in doing the same.
