The Light Gate Episode #069: Stephen Simon (What Dreams May Come)

Author: Preston Dennett April 12, 2026 Duration: 1:55:40
Tonight the Light Gate is delighted to welcome the amazing Stephen Simon. Stephen Simon produced such acclaimed projects as the Academy-Award winning, What Dreams May Come (starring Robin Williams and Cuba Gooding Jr.) Somewhere in Time (Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour,) and All The Right Moves (Tom Cruise.)

Stephen was also co-executive producer on fan favorites Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, and Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey (Keanu Reeves); produced She’s Out of Control (Tony Danza), executive produced Body of Evidence (Madonna), produced the first original film to premiere on the Internet (Quantum Project) in 2001, starring John Cleese and Stephen Dorff, was an executive producer on Linda McCartney for CBS Television, and was nominated for an Emmy Award as one of the executive producers of Homeless to Harvard for Lifetime Television. Stephen was also the head of production of the film companies owned by legendary Hollywood producers Ray Stark (Funny Girl, The Goodbye Girl, The Way We Were) and Dino De Laurentiis (Serpico, La Strada, 3 Days of The Condor). As an executive, Stephen supervised the production of films such as Smokey and The Bandit and The Electric Horseman. Stephen also directed and produced both Indigo and the film version of Conversations with God. In 2004, Stephen co-founded The Spiritual Cinema Circle, a monthly DVD distribution service that became an international success for 16 years.

Stephen’s first book, The Force is With You, was published by Hampton Roads in 2002, his second book, Bringing Back The Old Hollywood, was published in 2011, and he co-wrote What Dreams Have Come, Loving Through the Veil, published in 2020. Stephen was born into a successful Hollywood family. His father, S. Sylvan Simon, was a producer/director who made films with stars such as Abbott and Costello, Lana Turner, and Red Skelton; and worked as both a producer and an executive at Columbia Pictures under the legendary Harry Cohn, producing films such as Born Yesterday, the 1950 film that garnered a Best Actress Oscar for star Judy Holliday.

When Sylvan Simon died in 1951, Frank Sinatra became Stephen’s “godfather” and Stephen’s mother Harriet married Armand Deutsch, a film producer at MGM who produced films with stars such as Robert Taylor, James Stewart, and Grace Kelly. Armand Deutsch adopted Stephen, changing Stephen’s last name to Deutsch. In 1996, Stephen legally changed his name back to Simon. Stephen earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from UCLA in 1971 and a Law Degree from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles in 1974. After being admitted to the California Bar in 1974, he practiced law briefly before entering the film industry in 1976.

Stephen is one of the most amazing guests we've ever had on The Light Gate. I'm sure you will be amazed by his very profound stories.

Thank you for tuning into The Light Gate. With Dolly Safran having so much extensive experience as a firsthand lifelong contactee, and my own experience as a longtime researcher, along with our wonderful guests, we aim to bring new insights into the field of UFOs and the paranormal, and a wide variety of other subjects. We all deserve to know the truth about what's happening on our planet, and beyond! If you enjoyed this episode, please check out the many others here.

Have fun!

Step through THE LIGHT GATE and settle in for conversations that wander the blurred edges of reality. Hosts Preston Dennett and Dolly Safran guide these explorations, sitting down with a variety of guests to discuss experiences and ideas that challenge conventional understanding. Each episode delves into specific, curious territories, from the well-documented mysteries of Unidentified Flying Objects and government secrecy to more personal encounters with the extraterrestrial and the psychic. The dialogue often circles back to profound questions about consciousness, the nature of the afterlife, and creatures that might exist just outside the bounds of accepted science. This isn't about sensationalism, but rather a sincere, open-minded examination of what these phenomena could mean for our perception of existence itself. The resulting podcast feels like a series of late-night talks, where the topics are vast and the conclusions are often wonderfully elusive. If you've ever looked at the night sky with a sense of deep curiosity, or wondered about the untold stories hiding in the shadows of the everyday world, these conversations provide a thoughtful space to sit with those questions. Tune in for a journey that is as much about the inner landscapes of belief and wonder as it is about the outer mysteries of the universe.
