Sir Chris Hoy

Sir Chris Hoy

Author: Gabby Logan February 26, 2025 Duration: 53:22

Sir Chris Hoy is a British sporting icon who has battled his way to the top of the Olympic podium multiple times, but little did he know that the toughest battle was awaiting him in midlife. At the age of 47, Chris was diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer. In this episode, Chris opens up about the shock and emotion of the first few weeks and months, and how he tried to use all the tools he’d learned from his time as a professional athlete to get through the treatment that was keeping him alive. He is candid about how different his mindset is even compared to six months ago, and how his wife, Sara, has helped him to see how lucky they are as a family, despite receiving her own life changing diagnosis at the same time. Remarkably, Chris has found a way to stay in the moment and not hang on too tightly to a future that is guaranteed to no-one; this episode will certainly get you thinking about what is truly important in life.

There’s a particular kind of energy that comes with the middle of life-a mix of experience, shifting priorities, and a few unexpected physical and mental curveballs. On The Mid•Point with Gabby Logan, broadcaster Gabby Logan leans into that phase with curiosity and frank humour. Each conversation moves beyond the surface, as Gabby sits down with familiar names to unpack their personal midlife stories, from career pivots and family dynamics to the very real changes in health and fitness. This isn’t just anecdotal; the discussions are thoughtfully informed by specialists, whether that’s a nutritionist reframing diet, a sleep scientist, or a doctor explaining hormonal shifts. The result is a podcast that feels like a series of honest, reassuring chats with friends who aren’t afraid to ask the real questions. Listeners will find a space that normalises the complexities of this life stage, offering both relatable stories and tangible takeaways for navigating one’s own midpoint with more clarity and a lot less shame.
