Ep. 89 - Remembering Boots Randolph

Ep. 89 - Remembering Boots Randolph

Author: NAMM Resource Center December 16, 2020 Duration: 1:17:40
Join Mike, Dan and Ashley this week in remembering the iconic saxophonist, Boots Randolph. Not only was he a major player in the Nashville Sound playing on such hits as “Return to Sender” and “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” but had his own smash hit with “Yakety Sax!” In Boots' 2003 NAMM interview you will hear from the man himself as well as Chuck Surack, Founder of Sweetwater Sound and Tim Smith, Studio Musician and Professor at Frost School of Music who sat down to remember their dear friend.

Tune into The Music History Project for a deep and personal exploration of sound, guided by NAMM's resident Music Historian Dan Del Fiorentino and a team of co-hosts. This isn't just a timeline of dates and names; it's a living conversation drawn directly from the vast NAMM Oral History collection, an archive containing more than 4,500 firsthand interviews. Each episode pulls you into the stories behind the instruments we play and the music we love. You'll hear about pivotal innovations that changed how music is made, follow the fascinating evolution of guitars, keyboards, and all manner of musical tools, and understand the shifting landscape of how those instruments find their way to musicians. The podcast gives a voice to the icons and unsung heroes of the industry-the inventors, retailers, artists, and craftspeople whose collective experiences form the backbone of our musical culture. By weaving these personal narratives together, the series builds a rich, human-centered understanding of music's journey. It’s an ongoing project, much like the archive itself, always uncovering new layers and perspectives for anyone curious about where our music truly comes from.
