134: Dr. Paul Saladino - What We Learned from One of the Last Hunter-Gatherer Tribes

Author: Dr. Anthony Gustin March 8, 2021 Duration: 2:11:17

Dr. Anthony Gustin and The Carnivore MD Dr. Paul Saladino traveled halfway across the world to study one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer tribes, the Hadza, to learn more about their way of life, which has been unaffected for over 50,000 years now.

And they share their stories from their trip in this podcast episode.

When you tune in, you'll discover what the Hadza people typically eat, what their gut microbiome looks like as a result, the problems they're currently facing, and why they choose to remain a hunter-gatherer society despite other local tribes switching courses.

You'll also learn about ugali, a food missionaries introduced to the tribe, how they fare with key blood markers and chronic diseases, some myths that were introduced in early research on the tribe, and so much more.

Dr. Saladino and Dr. Gustin also asked the tribe some questions and their responses were super interesting. They also discuss gender roles and how the Hadza live with an abundance mindset.

You may recognize Dr. Paul Saladino if you're a regular listener of this podcast. He's a best-selling author and The Carnivore MD and he's been on the show multiple times now.

This episode is a little different though in that Dr. Gustin and Dr. Saladino only talk about their trip to Africa and what they learned from it.

So even if you've heard one of Dr. Saladino's episodes in the past, this one is completely different and one you won't want to miss.

Tune in now to travel back in time to where life was more simple and done right.

Dr. Anthony Gustin operates from a simple yet profound premise: health is our default setting. His The Natural State with Dr. Anthony Gustin is built on the idea that so much of what we call illness or fatigue stems from a mismatch between our biology and the world we've built. This isn't just another health podcast offering quick fixes. Instead, each conversation is a deep, practical exploration of how to construct a life that aligns with our fundamental needs. You'll hear from a carefully selected roster of experts-nutrition scientists, innovative fitness practitioners, and researchers who are redefining their fields. The discussions move beyond surface-level advice to examine the root causes of metabolic dysfunction, low energy, and chronic stress. What makes this podcast particularly valuable is its commitment to translation; complex biochemistry and physiology are broken down into actionable insights you can use immediately. Episodes regularly delve into the nuances of ancestral eating patterns, the science of strength and movement, and the environmental toxins that disrupt our systems. The goal is always clarity and application, providing a roadmap to strip away the noise of modern health trends and rebuild what Dr. Gustin calls a proper human environment. Tune in for thoughtful, evidence-based dialogues that empower you to reclaim the vitality that should be your natural state.
