Mentoring Through the ChurchMost of Mary’s mentoring work happens through church referrals.Often, a pastor will connect her with a woman who is struggling and needs someone to talk to. Mary then meets with that woman privately and offers support through conversation and encouragement.Because many women come from unsafe environments, Mary stresses that creating a safe and confidential space is essential.She explains that it can take multiple conversations before someone truly feels comfortable enough to open up. Helping Women Feel Safe AgainMary believes that one of the most important parts of mentorship is helping women rediscover a sense of safety.Many women she works with have spent years feeling unheard, ignored, or emotionally shut down.By offering a safe and private space to talk, Mary helps them begin the process of rebuilding confidence and self-worth.While she does not act as a licensed counselor, she does help women recognize when professional counseling may be necessary. Understanding AbuseMary also points out that abuse can affect both women and men.While her ministry primarily focuses on helping women, she acknowledges that men can also suffer abuse in relationships but often feel unable to talk about it.In many cases, she believes abusive behavior stems from unresolved trauma, particularly experiences of abuse during childhood.Understanding that cycle of pain can sometimes help people begin the process of breaking it.
