We think of empathy as always being a good thing, but like everything else, too much of a good thing can be toxic. I call "toxic empathy" (not a clinical term, BTW, just my term), the phenomenon that occurs when we empathize with others to the point that we can't feel our *own* feelings. We can't feel anger when people hurt us, or we order a cocktail we don't want because our friend doesn't want to drink alone, etc. etc. It robs us of our boundaries and our autonomy, often leading to self-abandonment. In this episode, I welcome marriage and family associate therapist https://www.reneeshaneetate.com/ (Renee Tate) back to the pod to talk about how it works and how we heal. Ever find yourself laughing through the pain because, honestly, what else is there to do? That's the space where The Patrauma Party-Heal from trauma, improve self worth, and learn to love yourself, dammit lives. Hosted by Remy Ramirez, who you'll quickly come to know as Your Trauma Bestie, this isn't your typical solemn dive into psychology. It's a real, often surprisingly funny, and always compassionate conversation about why healing from past wounds feels so frustratingly difficult. Each episode alternates between insightful talks with mental health professionals and raw, practical coaching sessions where Remy guides real listeners through their immediate struggles. You'll hear people unpack why they're drawn to unavailable partners, how to quiet that voice doubting their worth, and what it truly takes to break free from cycles that talk of "just moving on" never seems to fix. The core question driving every discussion is a practical one: how do we actually change? If you're tired of theoretical advice and crave relatable stories and actionable steps, this podcast offers a sense of community and a much-needed dose of humor on the path toward understanding yourself better.
