A conversation with Bruce--

Local historian Bruce Weirauch, who runs a Facebook page dedicated to Fulton County's history—we gain insights into his experience of encountering pushback from the community due to his coverage of historical cases, much like we’ve dealt with the Donald Bull and Donna Tompkins case. He recounts how he discussed matters like Janice May, who was murdered in the 50s, and how he unintentionally stirred more controversy than anticipated, resulting in accusations of altering narratives. But like Spoon River Gothic, Bruce emphasizes that his only intention was to present facts rather than opinions and allow his followers to form their own conclusions. Despite facing criticism and resistance, he continues to share stories with a dedication to presenting historical information objectively.

Bruce highlights the challenge of discussing cases involving people known to the community, where tragedy and suspicion intertwine. His dynamic with Jon Tompkins, someone he's known for decades, is underscored by his understanding of Jon's struggles. He recognizes Jon's turmoil, from a troubled marriage to the immense burden of loss. He shares that he had observed changes in Jon over the years, struggling to cope and perhaps failing to seek much-needed help.
