On July 15, rampaging Bedouins and Syrian forces invaded the Syrian Druze village of Suweida and massacred up to 2000 people, torturing, raping and kidnapping hundreds more in a viscous and barbaric terrorist raid disturbingly reminiscent of October 7th.
With fewer than a million Druze in the entire world—most of them concentrated in Syria, Israel, Lebanon and Jordan—this was a devastating tragedy of unimaginable proportions.
A unique characteristic of the Druze people is their fierce loyalty to and respect for whatever society they live in. In Israel, they are honored as perhaps the single most loyal minority, with 80% serving in the IDF and defend their nation.
And..the Druze also have an unparalleled unity among themselves. The Druze in Israel don’t just consider those in Syria to be family. They consider them to be brothers and sisters.
Over a thousand Israeli Druze stormed Syria that day to defend their brethren and the IDF was the only military on earth to step up and help. You see the Druze and the Jews do more than just rhyme. When it comes to the war on terror, they stand as one, unbreakable pillar.
I am honored today to be joined, live in Haifa, with Israeli Druze leader, Ayoob Kara, to help us understand the tiny Druze nation and how we can all step up to defend them.

Ayoob Kara is a Druze-Israeli politician and former Likud Knesset member known for his strong Zionist stance and regional diplomacy. Born in 1955 in Daliyat al-Karmel, he served as a reserve Major in the IDF and holds degrees in law and public policy. Kara served four Knesset terms and held key roles including Minister of Communications and Deputy Minister for Development of the Negev and Galilee.
A loyal supporter of Israel, Kara promoted ties with Arab neighbors and led humanitarian initiatives with Syria and Lebanon. He opposed disengagement from Gaza, supported settlement expansion, and advocated a strong stance on Iran. Since leaving politics, he heads the Economic Peace Center and serves on the advisory board of Doroni Aerospace, remaining active in diplomacy and public policy.
