Ihab Shlayan | Next Level Christian Zionism | Israel-Hamas War | Conversation with Shana Meyerson

Israel and the Jewish People have been absolutely blessed with some incredible, vocal, and powerful Christian Zionist allies who have proven to be absolute heroes since the Hamas terrorist massacre on October 7, 2023.

While so many people have lost sight of their Judeo-Christian values of condemning terror, defending justice, and loving one's neighbors, others have heard the call loud and clear.

Influencers like musician John Ondrasik (Five for Fighting), news commentator Erin Molan, Ambassador Mike Huckabee, and TV host Dr. Phil (to name a few) reach millions of people a day with their message of Christian unity with the Jews and the Jewish State.

And then there is Ihab Shlayan, a Lieutenant Colonel in the IDF Reserves who literally puts his life on the line to defend Am Yisrael. A native Israeli, as a Christian, Ihab was never required to serve in the IDF. But his love of country not only compelled him to serve, but to rise up to the highest ranking Christian officer in the entire Israel Defense Forces.

Now THAT is next-level Christian Zionism.

In this LIVE conversation, Shana Meyerson of YOGAthletica and Ihab Shlayan discuss what it means to be a Christian Zionist living in--and fighting for--the Jewish State.

If you are a yogi or yogini who thinks Christian values mean you should oppose Israel in this existential war, you owe it to yourself to listen to this conversation about honor and service, both to your nation and to your God.

Ihab Shlayan (born 1981 in Upper Nazareth, Israel) is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Reserves and one of the most prominent voices for Christian-Aramean identity in Israel. Over a military career spanning 24 years, he served in both combat and security roles, becoming the highest-ranking Christian officer in the IDF. An engineer by training, Shlayan holds degrees in electronics, digital communications, and cybersecurity. In 2012, he founded and continues to lead the Forum for Christian Enlistment, also known as "The Christian Voice" or "Voice of Israeli Christian Eagles," to promote the enlistment of Israeli Christians into the IDF and to advocate for greater Christian representation in national and local institutions. His activism focuses on securing official recognition of Aramean identity, improving municipal services in Christian areas such as Nazareth and the Upper Galilee, and strengthening Christian civic participation in Israel. Raised and still living in Upper Nazareth, Shlayan belongs to the Aramean/Syriac Christian community, preserving the use of the Aramaic language and cultural traditions alongside his public and military service.

Hosted by Shana Meyerson, The Yoga of War Podcast: Fighting for Israel & The Jewish People exists in the complex space where spiritual principle meets stark reality. This podcast explores the profound moral and ethical questions surrounding the Israel-Gaza War, specifically through a pro-Israel lens, while being grounded in the ancient philosophy of yoga. The central, challenging tension is between the yogic tenet of Ahimsa-non-violence-and the duty to defend one’s community as discussed in texts like the Bhagavad Gita. Each episode features conversations with a diverse range of voices, from activists and thinkers to community leaders, who share their insights and personal reckonings with this conflict. Listeners will hear nuanced discussions that don’t shy away from the tragedy of war but instead seek to understand the justification and heavy responsibility of a defensive fight. It’s a series for those grappling with how to hold space for peace and spiritual non-violence while confronting the necessity of standing for Israel and Jewish peoplehood in a time of crisis. The dialogue in this podcast is intentionally focused, offering perspective and depth on current events filtered through enduring principles of faith, politics, and human dignity.
