Father Marquette-Reuben Gold Thwaites

Step into a world far removed from paved roads and predictable days with Through the Brazilian Wilderness. This isn't a fictional tale but a direct narration from former President Theodore Roosevelt himself, sharing the raw, unfiltered experience of his 1913 journey deep into uncharted territory. The expedition, a joint effort with the famed Brazilian explorer Cândido Rondon, was as much a scientific survey as it was a brutal test of human endurance. In this podcast, Roosevelt's own words guide you through the dense, often perilous heart of the Amazon, describing landscapes so vivid you can almost feel the humidity and hear the chorus of unfamiliar creatures. You'll encounter descriptions of wildlife both magnificent and terrifying, and gain insight into the remarkable scientific observations made under extraordinarily difficult conditions. It’s a unique blend of history, natural science, and pure adventure, offering a firsthand perspective from a figure better known for politics, revealing his profound curiosity and respect for the natural world. Listening feels like uncovering a lost journal, each episode a chapter from a defining, real-life exploration that shaped our understanding of one of the planet's last great frontiers.
