Trapping Radio – 111- Mink trapping with pocket sets and blind sets, bobcat trapping and dealing with Anti’s

Author: Trapping Radio 2.0 June 25, 2025 Duration: 1:16:00

This week on Trapping Across America we are looking at how to trap mink with a pocket set. Some lessons I learned from Red O’ Hearn, Gerald Schmitt, Matt Jones and Johnny Thorpe. I am not a big mink trapper, let me clear the air with that. I catch mink when I want to, but I have never concentrated on them in a big way. I am more of the blind set guy myself, Matt Jones and Johnny Thorpe showed me a simple and fast way to trap and catch mink, the mostly over looked blind set.

I also go into a trapping question about my drag and trap set up for bobcats. This question has come up a lot from my Cat Collector DVD. Then we spend a few moments talking about changing the mind of a radical anti-trapper or a radical extremist that thinks animals should be totally left alone and in the wild.

Join Jeff Dunlap and Sarah Gomez for Trapping Radio 2.0, a conversation that extends far beyond the trap line. This podcast digs into the nuanced world of modern trapping, exploring techniques, ethics, and the changing landscapes that both wildlife and trappers navigate. Each episode is grounded in practical knowledge, from gear talk and setting strategies to fur handling and regulations, but it’s also about the quieter moments-the stories from a day in the woods, the problem-solving, and the deep connection to the outdoors that defines this way of life. Jeff and Sarah bring a balanced, experienced perspective, often debating approaches or sharing hard-learned lessons with a genuine camaraderie. You’ll hear unfiltered discussions about conservation roles, land stewardship, and the simple, often muddy, realities of spending time in the field. It’s a listen for anyone interested in the hands-on aspects of wildlife management or those who just appreciate honest talk about rural living and traditional skills. Tune in for a podcast that captures the sound of boots on the ground and the thoughtful conversation that happens after the traps are checked.
