The Gitchie Manitou Murders

The Gitchie Manitou Murders

Author: Emash Digital December 2, 2024 Duration: 1:03:39
On November 17th, 1973, five teens went to the Gitchie Manitou State Preserve on the Iowa-South Dakota border to hang out and play guitar. Three brothers found them sitting by the fire and began shooting. Only one of the teens survived the night.  Join Mike and Gibby as they discuss what has become known as the Gitchie Manitou murders. The only survivor was a 13-year-old girl. She was dropped off at home by one of the men, and she was able to give the police many details about what had happened that night. The brothers all had a different story to tell, with each of them blaming someone else for the shootings. For those drawn to the darker corners of human nature, True Crime All The Time offers a thorough and engaging deep dive. Hosts Mike Ferguson and Mike Gibson approach each case with a balance of meticulous research and conversational ease, building a narrative that is both comprehensive and compelling. Their coverage spans a deliberate spectrum, from the obscure cases that rarely make headlines to the infamous figures they term the "Big Timers," ensuring a fresh perspective even on the most well-trodden stories. The tone of this podcast is a key part of its appeal; while the subject matter is treated with the gravity it deserves, the hosts' dynamic avoids melodrama, creating a space that feels more like a detailed discussion between knowledgeable friends. Listeners will find themselves immersed in the granular details of investigations and courtroom dramas, but also in the psychological and societal questions that linger long after the facts are presented. It’s this commitment to the full story-the how, the why, and the often-overlooked context-that defines the experience. Produced by Emash Digital, the series fits within broader explorations of society and culture, using true crime as a lens to examine deeper truths. If you're looking for a show that respects the complexity of its stories without resorting to sensationalism, this is a consistently solid choice.
