TRUE HOUSE STORIES W/ TOM SILVERMAN (TOMMY BOY RECORDS) # 094 - PART 2
Tom Silverman explains different parts of the disco business and what led him to creating the New Music Seminar.
Along the same time he begins to work out how to run a record label while helping out the owners of Importe 12. While he is writing his columns for Dance Music Report, he learns about a hip hop dj that was playing this eclectic sound of funk and rock all mixed up in The Bronx Area.
He pays a visit to meet DJ Afrika Bambaataa, and the rest is history.
Tom loved what he witnessed and asked Afrika if he would like to make a record from all the tracks that you are playing in your set. At that precious moment Tommy Boy Records was created.
We stopped the interview early as Tom promised he would come back and speak more about his life in the music industry. When he returns he would like to have all the topics the audience would like to hear about  when he returns once again for another sit down as this will be scheduled soon.

There's a whole world of rhythm and soul behind the tracks that fill dancefloors, and True House Stories opens the door to it. Hosted by the respected DJ and producer Lenny Fontana, this isn't just a series of conversations; it's an oral history project for a genre built on feeling. Each episode sits down with a different architect of the sound-DJs, producers, vocalists, and label founders-to pull back the curtain on the moments that shaped everything. You'll hear the unvarnished, sometimes messy, reality of how classic records came to be, the late-night studio sessions that turned into anthems, and the personal journeys intertwined with the music's evolution. Fontana, speaking from a lifetime inside the scene, guides these discussions with a genuine curiosity, ensuring the stories remain candid and often surprising. Tuning into this podcast feels like finding a lost archive of club culture, where every interview adds another essential layer to our understanding of house music's enduring pulse. It’s for anyone who has ever felt a four-on-the-floor beat and wondered about the people and passion that put it there.
