Creating Community — Digging In | UK Column Interviews

Author: Alternate Current Radio April 14, 2026 Duration: 58:38
In 2020, when our society and economy were shut down by an autocratic Government, UK Column member Susan Humphrey joined forces with more than 40 like-minded souls in a bold move to preserve their liberty and sanity.
After much searching, in 2021 they found and purchased of a plot of land in Derbyshire, UK. Each trusting each other to contribute an equal amount of money.
They then set about transforming the area into a food and social haven, providing sustenance of all kinds.
With so many people involved, there have been complexities to work through.
However, what the groups have achieved on its plot of Derbyshire land is testament to their determination to create a better life, away from the system.
Now in its second farming season the community, and the land, is flourishing.
We hope this story will inspire others to enter into similar schemes and projects.

This daily podcast, produced by Alternate Current Radio, moves beyond the standard news cycle to examine the underlying political, economic, and social forces shaping international headlines. Each episode features in-depth analysis and discussion, focusing on how decisions made in corridors of power translate into real-world consequences for citizens. The conversations are detailed and evidence-driven, appealing to listeners who prefer a more forensic approach to current affairs. You'll hear a consistent focus on themes of governance, media narrative, and national sovereignty, all framed within a context that challenges mainstream reporting.
