We Need Beauty and Positivity | UK Column Interviews

Author: Alternate Current Radio August 25, 2026 Duration: 51:02
Professor Diane Rasmussen welcomes Chris Dobson as a new contributor to UK Column as they hold a lighthearted discussion about art, beauty, and positivity. Chris is a master craftsman who became an art historian. Born in the UK but now living in Italy, he has written about Florentine art and history since 2000. He believes that “human beings are naturally created to be creative”. In his new podcast for UK Column, he will show viewers what he calls “absolute masterworks” and how they were made. He starts with Florentine Renaissance masterworks and goes further afield from there. He has also written an article for Issue 3 of The Column about an infamous event in the destruction and looting of cultural treasures in medieval Western Asia and its parallels to the post-9/11 world. Take this fun and positive journey with Chris over the coming months! Meanwhile, learn more about Chris on his website, and watch his previous interviews on Jerm Warfare and The Delingpod.

Hosted by Mike Robinson and Brian Gerrish, UK Column Radio offers a distinct perspective on global events, anchored from Britain. This daily podcast, produced by Alternate Current Radio, moves beyond the standard news cycle to examine the underlying political, economic, and social forces shaping international headlines. Each episode features in-depth analysis and discussion, focusing on how decisions made in corridors of power translate into real-world consequences for citizens. The conversations are detailed and evidence-driven, appealing to listeners who prefer a more forensic approach to current affairs. You'll hear a consistent focus on themes of governance, media narrative, and national sovereignty, all framed within a context that challenges mainstream reporting. The tone is serious and engaged, built on the premise that a deeper understanding of news requires connecting disparate events into a coherent picture. For those seeking an alternative to conventional news commentary, this podcast provides a platform for sustained, critical dialogue. It’s a program dedicated to asking the questions often left unasked by other outlets, making it a regular listen for an audience that values thorough investigation over soundbite summaries.
