90 Million Americans Sat Out 2024. The Midterms Are Where That Stops.

I want you to consider something almost nobody stops to examine.

In the 2024 presidential election, close to 90 million eligible Americans did not vote. One out of every three people who held the legal right to cast a ballot let that right go unused. That figure comes from the University of Florida Election Lab and the researchers who track turnout for a living. It carries no ideology. It is simply what happened.

Now look at that number the way I look at an underperforming company.

Ninety million people represent the single largest dormant asset in American civic life. The asset already exists. It is already paid for. It requires no new law, no new party, no new candidate, no new fundraising. It sits fully built and completely unactivated, the way a warehouse of finished inventory sits behind an owner who believes the answer is more advertising.

In forty years of representing clients and in some cases, helping turn their businesses around, I found the same pattern almost every time. The owner chased something new and expensive while the highest and best use of their effort sat untouched in the next room.

Here is where the leverage compounds.

Midterm elections draw far fewer voters than presidential years. Fewer voters means every single ballot carries more weight, more influence, and more mathematical impact on the outcome. A vote you cast in a midterm buys you more result per unit of effort than a vote you cast in a presidential year. That is the definition of leverage, and most people walk past it.

So if you are frustrated by corruption, worn down by self-dealing, and finished with conflicts of interest, and if you want to remove from office the people who enabled and continue to advance the agenda of the man now serving in the Oval Office, a man convicted on 34 felony counts and found liable by a jury for sexually abusing and defaming a woman, then understand what your effort is currently buying you.

Another hour arguing online returns nothing. Zero. The activity feels like progress and produces no measurable outcome.

Voting produces the outcome.

Here is your assignment. Confirm your registration this week. Put the midterm date on your calendar today. Decide right now whether you vote by mail, early, or in person, and write that decision down. Then text three people you care about and walk them through the same four steps.

That last step is where the multiplication happens. One activated voter is one vote. One activated voter who activates three others is a return you cannot buy with any amount of advertising.

History does not belong to the loudest voice in the room. It belongs to the person who shows up.
