Neo colonialism/ modern colonialism
Friends, today we will talk about neo-colonialism. Colonialism means to make one country into its own colony and that colony does what its master country wants. In the 19th and 20th centuries, there was a lot of struggle to form a colony between the countries, due to which the world faced a lot of wars, out of which the First World War and Second World War cannot be forgotten.
The time of Renaissance and enlightenment in Europe had changed people's thinking. Now people there wanted to develop themselves and set up industry so that they could produce more and sell to more and more people. For their mass production, they needed more and more raw material which was supplied to them by their colonies. And the competition to build their colony has led the world to a very big world war that is second world war. After the Second World War, many countries gained independence with the intervention of America.
So that the world does not have to face such a grand war again, the United Nation was born. Which had a lot of branches, some for lending, some for health, some for security and some for development? It is thought that if the country remains dependent on each other, then such a war will be impossible in future. Until now, America, which used to make bi-lateral relationships for trade, was now proclaiming for multilateral trade. Tariff barriers between countries were decreasing, but non-tariff barriers were still intact. Barriers such as Quantity restriction were almost everywhere.
Because the banks were not well developed, the countries used to reserve more and more gold and print currency equivalent to their gold reserves. so countries adopted a policy of less import and more exports. Multilateral trade was very difficult if all countries did so. At the same time, the National Treatment and Most Favoured Nation's policy came out. the national treatment meant that once the goods arrived in the country, it would be given equal status as the goods of the country and the most favoured nation treatment meant that There will be no discrimination with the goods of any country.
The colony which had just been newly liberated had a very low industrial base, and their inclination was towards Protection Policy. While developed World was propagating for multilateral trade. Almost all countries have used the protection policy until their industry develop so that their internal economy can be healthy.
The newly liberated colonies have paid a huge sacrifice for their industrial development. Today, even though China's manufacturing base is very large, but China does not get all its benefits. In China, people of China get jobs because of manufacturing but foreign companies who dictate orders get large part of profit.
No country can be a complete protectionist in today's time, nor completely open at all! Every country should move towards progress keeping its truth in mind.
Whatever is the competitive advantage of the country, be it land, labour or material, or whatever is the country's strategic advantage should be given due consideration in today’s competitive world.
