The "Google Mentality" is Holding You Back on YouTube

The "Google Mentality" is Holding You Back on YouTube

Author: Tim Schmoyer July 5, 2022 Duration: 30:14

Yes, Google and YouTube are owned by the same company, but that doesn't mean that what works on Google works on YouTube. Just look at their homepages to see that they have very different goals, different objectives, and that people use them very differently. We need to ditch our "Google Mentality" and have a YouTube mentality instead in order for our videos to reach more people. That primarily comes down to 3 different mentalities when it comes to our content:

  1. Keywords vs. Topics
  2. Search traffic vs. Browse traffic
  3. Education vs. Entertainment

We'll talk about all 3 of these and more in today's episode.

Tim Schmoyer started Video Creators as a YouTube growth agency back in 2013, and this audio extension of that work dives deep into the real, often unglamorous, work of building a channel that lasts. Each episode pulls from Tim’s extensive experience guiding everyone from absolute beginners to established corporate teams, unpacking the nuances of audience growth, content systems, and platform changes. This isn't about quick hacks; it's a practical resource for creators and entrepreneurs who are serious about developing a highly engaged community of subscribers who become genuine customers. The discussions in this podcast naturally cover the intersection of creative work, marketing psychology, and the technology that powers modern video businesses, offering a clear path whether you're aiming for your first ten thousand subscribers or scaling past a million. Tune in for honest reflections on what works, what doesn't, and how to adapt your approach for long-term success on YouTube and beyond.
