DARPAS's Project Lifelog w/ Joe Perrow

We sit down with our friend Joe Perrow to discuss Facebook’s daddy: DARPA's project Lifelog. Imagine that everything you do online has been tracked and stored. No need to imagine, it’s true. LifeLog was a project of the Information Processing Techniques Office of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) of the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD). According to its bid solicitation pamphlet in 2003, it was to be "an ontology-based (sub)system that captures, stores, and makes accessible the flow of one person's experience in and interactions with the world in order to support a broad spectrum of associates/assistants and other system capabilities". The objective of the LifeLog concept was "to be able to trace the 'threads' of an individual's life in terms of events, states, and relationships", and it has the ability to "take in all of a subject's experience, from phone numbers dialed and e-mail messages viewed to every breath taken, step made and place gone". Ever find yourself staring at the night sky or reading a bizarre news headline and wondering how any of it actually works? That’s the territory Weird Science lives in. Hosted by comedians Justin and Shane, this podcast digs into the strange, fascinating, and often hilarious intersections of real science, fringe theories, and what the future might hold. Each episode feels like a late-night conversation with friends, where genuine curiosity meets a comedic perspective. They regularly bring fellow stand-up comics into the mix, ensuring the discussions are accessible and entertaining, never dry or overly academic. You’ll hear them tackle everything from quantum oddities and cosmological mysteries to the latest in futurist thought, all through a lens that questions the conventional narrative. It’s a show for anyone who loves the thrill of a good “what if” but prefers their deep dives served with laughter and good rapport. Previously operating under the name Conspiracy Beer Me, the podcast has evolved into a dedicated exploration of the wonderfully weird corners of our universe. Tuning in means joining a community that values asking big, funny questions without always needing definitive answers. For those who enjoy the blend of humor and heady topics, this is a consistently engaging listen.
