144: A chicken revolution

144: A chicken revolution

Author: Heartcast Media July 23, 2018 Duration: 38:24
Many of us are able to buy quality vegetables in enough quantity to satisfy our hunger. It’s so easy we may become convinced that the world doesn’t need animal products to survive. But what about those who live in isolated places who don’t have these privileges? What about those who can’t grow a big variety of vegetables in enough quantity to have a balanced diet and keep hunger at bay? Cue the chickens. Reginaldo Haslett-Marroquin makes the case in today’s episode for a poultry-centered regenerative agriculture model that has the power to shift food inequalities and cultivate health. A chicken laying eggs can make all the difference for a family on the brink of malnutrition, and quite probably bridge the gap between life and death. Today, Reginaldo Haslett-Marroquin, author and fair trade advocate, tells his own story—how chickens saved his life as a small child in Guatemala, and how he is applying this nature-centered agricultural knowledge (and knowledge of poultry, in particular) to today’s farming strategies. Learn how this chicken revolution is quietly transforming the food landscape in countries around the world. Learn more about Reginaldo and his work at mainstreetproject.org. Produced by Heartcast Media, Wise Traditions is a conversation about health that begins with a simple, radical idea: our ancestors might have known better. This podcast explores the foundations of well-being found in time-honored practices, traditional diets, and holistic living, moving beyond the confines of modern, engineered solutions. Each episode delves into practical and philosophical discussions on how to apply this ancestral wisdom to contemporary life, covering topics from nutrition and fitness to broader lifestyle choices that align with nature's rhythms. The dialogue is built on the premise that true vitality comes not from dominating the natural world, but from understanding and cooperating with it, a concept famously echoed by Dr. Weston A. Price. You'll hear from a variety of voices-practitioners, researchers, and everyday people-who are integrating these principles to cultivate resilience and health. It’s for anyone feeling disconnected from simplistic health trends and seeking a deeper, more rooted path to wellness. Tune in for thoughtful, often challenging conversations that reconnect the dots between what we’ve forgotten and how we can truly thrive.
