157: Crowd-sourced wisdom

157: Crowd-sourced wisdom

Author: Heartcast Media October 22, 2018 Duration: 32:51
Where do you turn when it comes to dietary advice? For too long, most of us have listened to "the anointed"--that is, experts who have promoted erroneous information to the expense of our health. Increasingly, people are turning their backs on what the supposed experts say and are instead turning to the wisdom of the crowds for their nutrition advice. Tom Naughton, filmmaker of the 2009 hit documentary, "Fat Head," explains why this "crowd-sourced" wisdom is a good thing. He himself once promoted federally-governed food guidelines, but he came to realize that these guidelines were greatly misaligned with the diets and ways of ancient populations. On today's podcast, he explains how ancient foods are not causing the diseases of modern civilization, what we can do to take our health into our own hands, and what he's working on to help children make healthy decisions early on for a lifetime of good health. And to anyone who thinks it’s too late to start nourishing themselves with the nutritious whole foods of our ancestors, Tom has just one thing to say: “Bologna!” For more on Tom's movie and book projects, go to fathead-movie.com. Produced by Heartcast Media, Wise Traditions is a conversation about health that begins with a simple, radical idea: our ancestors might have known better. This podcast explores the foundations of well-being found in time-honored practices, traditional diets, and holistic living, moving beyond the confines of modern, engineered solutions. Each episode delves into practical and philosophical discussions on how to apply this ancestral wisdom to contemporary life, covering topics from nutrition and fitness to broader lifestyle choices that align with nature's rhythms. The dialogue is built on the premise that true vitality comes not from dominating the natural world, but from understanding and cooperating with it, a concept famously echoed by Dr. Weston A. Price. You'll hear from a variety of voices-practitioners, researchers, and everyday people-who are integrating these principles to cultivate resilience and health. It’s for anyone feeling disconnected from simplistic health trends and seeking a deeper, more rooted path to wellness. Tune in for thoughtful, often challenging conversations that reconnect the dots between what we’ve forgotten and how we can truly thrive.
