162: A wise diet

Author: Heartcast Media November 26, 2018 Duration: 37:10
Dietary trends come and go. How can we possibly know what’s best to eat? Dr. Weston A. Price traveled the world to find what the healthiest people ate. The diets varied greatly depending on what part of the world the indigenous groups inhabited---the Swiss ate a diet rich in dairy products; the Inuit in Alaska ate a lot of fish and whale blubber, etc. But while the dietary specifics were different, traditional diets had much in common, as well. This is the crux of the Wise Traditions diet. It is not a list of do’s and don’ts, but rather a guide for healthy eating, wherever you live, based on wise ancestral food ways! On today's podcast, Sally Fallon Morell, the president of the Weston A. Price Foundation, takes us back to the basics. She explains the 11 principles that were compiled, through scientific research and the work of Dr. Weston A. Price, to make up the Wise Traditions diet. The list of simple nutritional guidelines helps ease the burden of stress that comes from trying to eat well. Together, we will learn from the wise diets of the world and incorporate what we can to live the healthiest way possible! For more from Sally, check out her blog at nourishingtraditions.com. Produced by Heartcast Media, Wise Traditions is a conversation about health that begins with a simple, radical idea: our ancestors might have known better. This podcast explores the foundations of well-being found in time-honored practices, traditional diets, and holistic living, moving beyond the confines of modern, engineered solutions. Each episode delves into practical and philosophical discussions on how to apply this ancestral wisdom to contemporary life, covering topics from nutrition and fitness to broader lifestyle choices that align with nature's rhythms. The dialogue is built on the premise that true vitality comes not from dominating the natural world, but from understanding and cooperating with it, a concept famously echoed by Dr. Weston A. Price. You'll hear from a variety of voices-practitioners, researchers, and everyday people-who are integrating these principles to cultivate resilience and health. It’s for anyone feeling disconnected from simplistic health trends and seeking a deeper, more rooted path to wellness. Tune in for thoughtful, often challenging conversations that reconnect the dots between what we’ve forgotten and how we can truly thrive.
