201: Anxiety, allergies, & food sensitivities

Author: Heartcast Media August 19, 2019 Duration: 32:45
Growing up, Jo Whitton suffered with poor health. She had food intolerances, histamine reactions, frequent colds, and more. As she grew older, her problems increased, and she noticed that her children struggled with similar issues. When her 11 year-old son began to develop strange phobias, extreme anxiety and other mental health concerns, Jo began to look for answers, like never before. Today, Jo is a popular author and speaker and the podcast host of "A Quirky Cooking Journey." She and her family have reversed the trend of poor physical and mental health and Jo shares their story to help others do the same. Through the GAPS (Gut and Psychology) diet, she turned things around and now she lectures around the world about the importance of gut health.  On this episode, we cover the many symptoms of poor gut health--ranging from OCD to anxiety to allergies to constipation to diarrhea to arthritis, and more--along with how to begin the journey of healing the gut with nutrient-rich foods.  For more from Jo, visit her website: quirkycooking.com.au. Produced by Heartcast Media, Wise Traditions is a conversation about health that begins with a simple, radical idea: our ancestors might have known better. This podcast explores the foundations of well-being found in time-honored practices, traditional diets, and holistic living, moving beyond the confines of modern, engineered solutions. Each episode delves into practical and philosophical discussions on how to apply this ancestral wisdom to contemporary life, covering topics from nutrition and fitness to broader lifestyle choices that align with nature's rhythms. The dialogue is built on the premise that true vitality comes not from dominating the natural world, but from understanding and cooperating with it, a concept famously echoed by Dr. Weston A. Price. You'll hear from a variety of voices-practitioners, researchers, and everyday people-who are integrating these principles to cultivate resilience and health. It’s for anyone feeling disconnected from simplistic health trends and seeking a deeper, more rooted path to wellness. Tune in for thoughtful, often challenging conversations that reconnect the dots between what we’ve forgotten and how we can truly thrive.
