406: Avoid Seed Oils

Author: Heartcast Media February 13, 2023 Duration: 29:39
The bottles of yellow oil on the supermarket shelves are labeled heart-healthy but they are in actuality damaging for our health (and the heart). These seed oils are unstable fats extruded from seeds that are not meant for human consumption. They are deodorized and colorized to make them look and taste appealing, but they are rancid and difficult to digest. They can (and do) lead to a host of health conditions from obesity, to cancer, to diabetes, to premature aging. Sally Fallon Morell, president of the Weston A. Price Foundation, describes the issues with these oils: canola, safflower, sunflower, soy and more. Sally explains how to spot the seed oils in our foods and how to swap them out of the diet. Produced by Heartcast Media, Wise Traditions is a conversation about health that begins with a simple, radical idea: our ancestors might have known better. This podcast explores the foundations of well-being found in time-honored practices, traditional diets, and holistic living, moving beyond the confines of modern, engineered solutions. Each episode delves into practical and philosophical discussions on how to apply this ancestral wisdom to contemporary life, covering topics from nutrition and fitness to broader lifestyle choices that align with nature's rhythms. The dialogue is built on the premise that true vitality comes not from dominating the natural world, but from understanding and cooperating with it, a concept famously echoed by Dr. Weston A. Price. You'll hear from a variety of voices-practitioners, researchers, and everyday people-who are integrating these principles to cultivate resilience and health. It’s for anyone feeling disconnected from simplistic health trends and seeking a deeper, more rooted path to wellness. Tune in for thoughtful, often challenging conversations that reconnect the dots between what we’ve forgotten and how we can truly thrive.
