Building A Nourishing Asian Kitchen

Building A Nourishing Asian Kitchen

Author: Heartcast Media April 8, 2024 Duration: 42:28
Sophia Nguyen Eng was in the tech world when she decided to make a dramatic shift. She left her high-paying corporate job, exchanged it for a homestead with chickens and sheep, and began cooking real food for her family. The next thing she knew, she was working on "The Nourishing Asian Kitchen" cookbook in an attempt to preserve the rich culinary traditions of Vietnam, China, Japan, Korea, and other Asian countries. Today, she tells us what drove her shift. She talks about her family's health concerns (like her husband's eczema or her mother's heart issues), where she began to overhaul her kitchen (hint: in the spices, sauces, and oils in the cabinets) and how we can make similar shifts for health and healing. She also describes which recipes are the easiest to attempt from her cookbook for the Asian cooking novice and why eating out at Asian restaurants can be problematic. Produced by Heartcast Media, Wise Traditions is a conversation about health that begins with a simple, radical idea: our ancestors might have known better. This podcast explores the foundations of well-being found in time-honored practices, traditional diets, and holistic living, moving beyond the confines of modern, engineered solutions. Each episode delves into practical and philosophical discussions on how to apply this ancestral wisdom to contemporary life, covering topics from nutrition and fitness to broader lifestyle choices that align with nature's rhythms. The dialogue is built on the premise that true vitality comes not from dominating the natural world, but from understanding and cooperating with it, a concept famously echoed by Dr. Weston A. Price. You'll hear from a variety of voices-practitioners, researchers, and everyday people-who are integrating these principles to cultivate resilience and health. It’s for anyone feeling disconnected from simplistic health trends and seeking a deeper, more rooted path to wellness. Tune in for thoughtful, often challenging conversations that reconnect the dots between what we’ve forgotten and how we can truly thrive.
