Moving into the Unfamiliar: Monica Cataluña Shand, CCIM

Author: Veronica Malolos, CCIM May 17, 2024 Duration: 18:54

This week on Women Influencers, I spoke with Monica Cataluña Shand. She opened her own company, KoRes, in 2007 and serves as Broker and Developer. She is also the President-Elect (‘24-’25) of CCIM in the Fort Lauderdale/Broward district.

We discussed how she was born and raised in Puerto Rico and how, around the time Monica was graduating High School, her mom told her that the family was moving to the United States. After the move to Coral Springs, she racked up the family’s long distance phone bill keeping up with her friends and feeling homesick. At the time it didn’t seem like it, but now she knows the move was the best thing for her.

Monica attended FAU studying Business and Marketing in her undergrad and earning her MBA. After college, she worked a few corporate jobs and did a bit of residential Real Estate on the side until deciding to open her own brokerage. A few years into doing residential Real Estate full time, Monica realized it was not her forte and switched over to commercial.

We spoke about challenges, regrets, and Monica shared some advice for those in CRE.

These are not just interviews; they are deep dives into the decisions, setbacks, and pivotal moments that define a career.
