006 What Do I Wear

006 What Do I Wear

As you travel internationally, one of the details you should consider is your clothing. There should be several factors you should consider when making this decision.

  • Where are you going?
  • Who is waiting for you on the other end?
  • Will you be taking public transportation or will you have a prearranged driver?
  • What is the weather like where you're going?
  • How comfortable are the clothes you're choosing?
  • Can you run (at least briefly, at least 1-2 city blocks) in the shoes you will be wearing?
  • Do the clothes allow for easy access to papers or devices you may have stashed away in pockets?
  • How many bags will you be carrying?

Remember, the bad guys are looking for the best ROI. They are asking themselves, which person is showing the most value for the effort and time they will invest in an altercation.  That value is based on the clothing,  accessories, and your personal look.

Your personal look includes, among other things, your hairstyle and cut, your manicure, your walk and the way you look around at the people and the items around you.

It's important to blend into the crowd. This can be accomplished but doing some research.  Your secretary can call the secretary of the person you will be meeting and ask them or by reviewing YouTube videos of the place you will be visiting. Youtube will offer you a more well-rounded look at what people look like and how they act, but it will take longer to watch enough video to get a good sense of it.

For the most part I travel in

  • a pair of jeans,
  • slip-on shoes, (prefer Merrell and Keen shoes)
  • Short-sleeve shirt with pockets (I find that for me, Under Armour has the most comfortable and breathable shirts) UA Tac Shirt
  • Depending on whether I'm traveling on business or for pleasure I might wear a sports jacket or a light leather jacket.

Something to think about. Make sure to wear your travel clothes several times before using them for travel. This will lower the "new look"  and will help with blending in.
