009 School Shooting and Sensible Gun Laws

009 School Shooting and Sensible Gun Laws

Are you telling your family and friends what you are learning? Learning to stay Alert and Aware, to have a plan is the basic steps you must know for life in this World but the second thing we must do is tell others. Even if they think we're crazy or dismiss it because they think these steps don't fit what they understand.

  • Family
  • Friends
  • School
  • Houses of Worship
  • Shopping Centers

Find out what they know and find out what sort of plans they have in place. If they don't have a plan then offer them suggestions. If they do have a plan, then learn what it is. If it doesn't fit the steps of Evading, Barakading, Immobilizing (Run, Hide, Fight) then take action to get them to reconsider. And if that doesn't work think about another school or house of worship.

Additional Thoughts:
I've read many tweet posts referring to this event and citing a need for Sensible Gun Laws. These posts shock me because they show a lack of common sense. Laws don't stop crime. Our focus as a society should be two-fold.

  1. Identify "why" these events happen, and
  2. Stop the disregard of human life

The Shooting Information:
May 7, 2019 the Douglas County Sheriff's office said deputies heard shots coming from the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) School in Highlands Ranch, about 40 km or 25 miles south of Denver when they arrived to investigate reports of gunfire.

Taken from New York Times website: "Tyler Rush, 17, a junior, said he had been on the second floor of the school, just above where the shooting occurred. He said that it began during the day’s final period and that the school announced a lockdown in the middle school portion of the building. He and his classmates gathered in a corner and turned out the lights. Some cried. Some sat paralyzed."
